With a $30 million gift from Missouri State alumnus and Springfield, Mo.-based hotel developer John Q Hammons, the long-time dream of a new home for the Missouri State Bears and Lady Bears and an iconic tribute to MSU intercollegiate athletics has become a reality.
With a seating capacity of 11,000, Great Southern Bank Arena includes 50 courtside seats, the Grand Entrance, 24 suites, PRIME Overtime Club and other amenities.
In 2013, the men's and women's locker rooms, coaching staff offices and film room were completed, giving the basketball teams a home of their own inside the arena.
Renamed Great Southern Bank Arena on April 21, 2022, the facility has had a profound impact on the Bears' and Lady Bears' recruiting efforts, putting the MSU basketball facilities on par with the top Division I schools in the country. The arena is a premier basketball facility that will continue to give Missouri State an overwhelming home-court advantage, making the Bears' and Lady Bears' games the place to be in Springfield.
