THE GOLDEN DOME

A landmark building on the campus, The Golden Dome Athletic Center is the headquarters for athletics and recreation at Rutgers-Newark.

The geodesic dome main arena seats 1,002. A two-court auxiliary/recreation gym provides additional practice space for Scarlet Raiders teams. Men's and women's basketball and volleyball play all of their home contests in The Golden Dome.

The playing arena has been completely refurbished over the past five years with the floor being replaced with a wood suspension system, chair-seating replacing wooden bleachers, and the installation of new scoreboard and sound systems.

The Golden Dome also features a 7,000-square-foot fitness center, a 25-yard swimming pool, two racquetball courts, a dance/exercise studio, a conference area and locker rooms. Varsity locker rooms, the athletic training room and equipment/laundry services are located on the lower level of The Golden Dome.

The Golden Dome Courts
Finished in 1977, The Golden Dome was the first major recreation and athletics facility constructed on the Newark campus. The auxiliary gym, pool, racquetball courts, conference rooms and additional locker rooms were added in 1993.

THE GOLDEN DOME COURTS

The varsity tennis teams play on The Golden Dome Courts. The five composition courts were completely resurfaced in 2001, giving the Scarlet Raiders one of the finest home facilities in the region.

Alumni Field
FREDERICK DOUGLASS FIELD

Home to Scarlet Raider men's and women's soccer and softball teams, Alumni Field underwent a major renovation in 2006. The latest generation of FieldTurf artificial surface was laid down in August 2006 with the completion of a new softball field completed in March.  The synthetic turf was replace in 2010.

State-of-the-art artificial turf replaced natural grass, giving Rutgers-Newark a much-needed year-round surface for athletics and intramurals for the rapidly-growing campus. New scoreboards for soccer and softball were installed in 2008.  Lights were added for night contests and practices in 1999 with updates in the lighting system made in the summer of 2007 to accommodate night softball contests. Located immediately across the street from The Golden Dome, Alumni Field gives Scarlet Raider teams an excellent venue just steps from classrooms and dormitories.

WEEQUAHIC PARKFinal

Weequahic Park now serves as the site for home contests for the Scarlet Raider baseball team. Located 15 minutes from the Golden Dome on Elizabeth Ave & Meeker Ave, Newark, NJ 07112.
