  • MBB Championship Highlights: No. 2 UC Irvine v. No. 1 UC San Diego

    Top-seeded UC San Diego Pulled away in the second half from No. 2 seed UC Irvine to win the 2025 Big West Men’s Basketball Championship, presented by Credit Union 1 by a final score of 75-61, Saturday at Lee’s Family Forum. With the title, the Tritons improve to 30-4 on the year and receive the league’s automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Tournament and will play No. 5 seed Michigan on Thursday at 7pm. Irvine drops to 28-6, but hopes are still alive for the Anteaters as they are listed as “on the bubble” of the NCAA Tournament according to some media outlets, and may receive a bid into the NIT. In their inaugural season of postseason eligibility after a four-year reclassification period from NCAA Division II, the Tritons’ name will be on the Division I brackets for the first time. A successful program during its Division II membership, UCSD won five CCAA tournament crowns, including four-straight from 2017-20, also under head coach Eric Olen's tenure.

    In their first-ever NCAA Division I postseason appearance, the No. 4 seed UC San Diego Tritons topped the third-seeded UC Davis Aggies, 75-66, in front of a blue and gold crowd at the 2025 Big West Women's Basketball Championship, presented by Credit Union 1 at Lee's Family Forum in Henderson, Nev. With this championship win, the Tritons improve to 20-15 on the year, and earn the league's automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship. The Tritons will play next in the First Four against Southern U on Wednesday, March 19th on ESPNU. In their first year of postseason eligibility after a four-year reclassification period from NCAA Division II, UC San Diego's name will grace the Division I brackets for the first time. A successful program during their CCAA membership, the Tritons won three CCAA tournaments and eight regular-season crowns.
